Final outdoor learning

Today was the last week of  Outdoor learning for the upper school classes and because P5/6, P6 and P7 have conducted themselves so well they got free choice for the final session.

All requested hot chocolate and wanted a fire (but wet weather made the firewood too damp) do den building and play went on instead.  One class did some orienteering from a route created by Arran in P7, another played a team problem solving game involving the painted grid in the playground and P6 had a big class game of “Among Us” going on with lots of shrieking and tearing about the field. Apologies for any muddy children!

There’s  definitely something about the fresh air that makes hot chocolate even more delicious!

Recycling and a community clear up!

Miss Fraser’s class has been learning about plastic in the oceans and about climate change too.

Here is a beautiful bag made by carefully cutting and knotting a tshirt. Well done Eela!!

P5/6 carried out a community clear up along the canal today leaving the path much tidier than they had found it.

Wild Explorers Award

P7 completed the last task for their Wild Challenge Award.

They split into groups and one group prepared a spot for wildflowers and sowed seeds; another made a “fairy ring” by planting tulip bulbs and the third group dug a deep, long trench and filled it in with sticks and rocks and logs and covered it so toads can hibernate under the surface in the gaps.

Sensory poems

P5/6 went for a walk and took notes of what they saw/heard/felt etc and returned and wrote sensory poems.

The two birds’ nests caused much speculation-what type of bird made it and lived in it? What do you think made these nests?

P3 : Fantastic at Clearing Plastic Up!

Mrs Grieves has been looking at the impact rubbish can have on the oceans with her P3class and they have made posters to share the new 3 R’s of the Eco code:

⭐️ REFUSE any unnecessary plastic     ⭐️

⭐️ REDUCE what you throw in the bin⭐️

⭐️ RECYCLE as much as you can        ⭐️

Here are some of their posters! In addition to this Tia, Bethany, Sham, Arya, Mays and Lauren have been busy clearing our playground of rubbish during their break times.  The planet’s oceans will be a lot healthier because of your actions girls! 👏🏻

P7 Is Litter Picking Good!

P7 went out round the streets of Linnvale and amassed an impressive 422 items of litter. They returned to school and used chromebooks to make graphs and pie charts to breakdown the litter types and passer-bys commented that their efforts would help stop their pet dogs getting cut paw pads!

Well done P7-your hard work was noticed!

P5/6 Linnvale Park Litter Pick

P5/6 have taken up the challenge and embraced being Eco Ambassadors for our school-they all work tirelessly and enthusiastically and today their hard work  was noticed by a passer by.  A very kind lady drove by and stopped her car and brought out a massive bag of fun sized bags of Haribo to thank our young Litter pickers for clearing the rubbish from the park and church grounds.  They had worked in trios-each group targeting a specific litter type and one picked, one had the binbag and one recorded quantities on an iPod.

Their gathered information was then turned into bar graphs as part of the measure element of our next green flag award.

It was lovely to have their hard work noticed and appreciated by a member of the local community. Thank you-it really made our day!

Litter Survey and Litter Pick

P5/6 carries out a litter pick and survey this week.  They were pretty annoyed to go out at playtime and discover that more litter had been dropped just after they had worked so hard to clear the playground.  So they have taken action and will be sharing it with the rest of the school at assembly!
