🌿 The School's New Gardening Tools! 🌿

Mrs Clark was busy in February ordering our new gardening tools-we had applied for funding for these from the Climate Change Asset Fund and hope to start a family gardening club in school. We would love pupils to bring an adult along to help them and learn some new skills and hopefully get a love of gardening as a result. There is a set of gardening tools for each family group and we hope to be able to offer assistance after school to help novice gardeners find their green fingers!

More details will follow....

The Squirmery Wormery

We had budgeted in our CCAF application for funding for a wormery start up kit and our wriggly tiger worms have arrived and the Monday John Muir group set up the wormery and relased the new inhabitants into their new setting. Banana skins, egg shells and tea leaves have been added and there is a group of P6 pupils who are responsible for checking on our composting worms!

We can reduce our school food waste which by encouraging and  educating our school community to use the wormery instead of binning their banana skins and bread crusts etc! The next step is to share the news of our wormery at assembly!

Welcome back! BIG catch up!

Things have been quiet on this blog due to the demands of online teaching but now we are back at school, I can uodate the blog.

P3, P3/4 and 4/5 took an environmental focus for their topic work while learning at home and learned bout the imact that litter has on land, in the oceans and the effects deforestation has on the world. They learned about climate change and how our actions can cause climate change but also what can be done to prevent it.

We have been successful with our grant application for the CCAF fund and the school was awarded just under £10,000. This was to replace the tattered polytunnel with a robust polycrub and to purchase some gardening equipment. Our aim is to start a family gardening club when COVID restrictions permit.

The school found a home for the existing frame and it has been dismantled now and removed. Have a look and see what happened so far... #CCAF #climatechangeassetfund
